We are executors for an estate. When clearing the property cash of the deceased was found however this was in a foreign currency being Ghana Cedis. There is literally no where to change this into sterling as it is classed as a minor currency and our bank wont accept it.
Has anyone had this problem before and what did you do. I am at a loss.
Thanks

Hi Louise
You could try the postoffice, if no joy little else but pass to realtives so they can donate to charity if the amount is that small. Or you could get the value on a conversion site and pay sum in to client account from office and the firm donate currency to charity, think the accept currency donations.
Very few options.

Could you ask the executor for agreement to donate to charity? We’ve had this several times and there aren’t many options to deal with the funds, we have a local morrisons where you can drop off foreign coins once we got executor approval.

I did a Chat GPT search and they say Manor FX is one of the only services in the UK that will buy back GHS for GBP. It says they except bank notes via post – you fill out a form, send the money securely, and receive GBP back in your UK bank account. They accept recent banknotes e.g. GHS 1,2,5,10,20,50,100,200). Could be worth looking at if you have a lot of notes. It says 1. go to manorfx.com/product/cedi 2.Enter how much GHS you want to exchange. 3.Follow instructions to package and post securely 4.Receive GBP by bank transfer. Never used anything like it before but just in case it’s helpful?!
